SV Hospitality Innovation Lab (SHIL) Targets Disruptors in the Hospitalism Industry

There has been a growing trend recently among tech hubs in Nigeria. Most of the emerging hubs are becoming increasingly specialized, looking for innovations for an industry or technology.

SV Hospitality Innovation Lab (SHIL), a recently launched tech incubator in Abuja, is out to support innovators in the hospitality industry.

“We have observed that innovators creating solutions for the hospitality industry in Nigeria typically build in isolation from the hotels and guests who are the end-users of the solution. We want to provide these teams with the access to hotel infrastructure, customers, and other resources needed to build solutions that solve a clear problem for hotels and their guests,” SHIL said.

The hospitality business goes beyond hotels and room service. The industry has been changing quickly and requires technology to sustain the momentum.

The hub runs a four-month prototyping programme for startups. Working in partnership with CcHub, SHIL helps innovators develop their ideas and get them market-ready.

SHIL Promises Up to $250,000  Growth Funding

The hub has quite a lot of interesting offerings for hospitality startups. SHIL startups get to work out of the SV Chrome Hotel in the posh Jabi area in Abuja. Funding opportunities also exist, with the hub promising pre-incubation support and possible funding up to $5,000 from CcHUB. Startups also get $3,000 worth of Amazon Web Services (AWS) credits.

Importantly too, startups gain access to premium industry insights from SV Chrome Hotels’ parent company IMPACTO Group. The startups with promising innovations or those gaining traction also get access to CcHub’s funding instruments, ranging from a $25,000 incubation fund to a $250,000 growth capital fund.

However, entry into the SHIL incubator programme is not exactly free. Startups give up 7% equity to SHIL in return for all the benefits listed above.

Applications are currently open to startups interested in joining the SHIL programme. The final startup selection will be concluded on July 7, 2018, while the four-month incubator program begins on July 27, 2018.
