    The NG_HUB FbStart Accelerator University Roadshow Has Begun, Your University May be Next

    As part of the key programmes of the Facebook-powered FbStart Accelerator, the NG_HUB team has begun a tour of major Universities across the various zones of Nigeria. Part of the activities outlined in this tour includes meeting with students who are involved in building drones and showcasing smart home prototypes, smart glasses, and other awesome Internet of Things objects.The NG_HUB FbStart Accelerator University Roadshow Has Begun, Your University Maybe Next

    The programme, which was launched in partnership with CC-Hub, is a 6-months research and mentoring programme that focuses on providing teams with the necessary tools, technical and business support as well as funding needed to launch their innovations.

    Over the past week, the team has visited the Chisco Institute for International Studies, UNIZIK, Anambra. It also visited the Ken-Saro-Wiwa Innovation Hub, UNIPORT and the UBA Hall of Fame, UNN, Enugu.

    The NG_HUB team also promises to visit the South-West within the week. The team will be at the University of Ibadan today, Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) on Tuesday (the 12th of June), and then the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) the day after (13th of June).     The roadshows would feature top people from Facebook and CcHUB Nigeria and would be focused on exploring exciting tech in higher institutions and discovering students (PhD, MSc & BSc) that are willing to build solutions for the future.

    About the Programme

    The FbStart Accelerator at NG_HUB is a deep-tech focused accelerator program for visionary and innovative teams using advanced technologies to solve problems in our society and build solutions for the future.

    It is designed to provide up to $20,000 in equity-free funding and support to innovative startup and student teams building solutions that utilize any of these technologies; Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Internet of Things, Augmented Reality (AR), and Virtual Reality (VR).The NG_HUB FbStart Accelerator University Roadshow Has Begun, Your University Maybe Next

    The plan is to bear the innovation message to 13 cities across Nigeria in 30 days.

    At the end of the tour, startups/ teams with innovations in the listed areas and that have existing business users as well as a committed team with a desire to drive development in their focus industries will be selected for incubation.

    Selected startups will receive a $20,000 in equity-free funding, business and technical support from Facebook and CcHUB coupled with access to a working space.

    @JoinClubhouse has raised Series C funding from it @JoinClubhouse has raised Series C funding from its partners. The amount is undisclosed but the startup says the round was led by Andrew Chen at a16z and had participation from major investors including DST Global, Tiger Global, and Elad Gil.

The startup released its iOS app in March 2020 and raised funds at a $100 million valuation in May of the same year. 

Now a unicorn, the startup’s valuation has grown exponentially since its first raise and its latest raise is reportedly at a valuation of $4 billion according to market rumours.

With this raise, the unicorn says it will be focusing on scaling its team heavily to support international growth.

    @theflutterwave has partnered with American eComme @theflutterwave has partnered with American eCommerce fraud detection firm, Forter to enable merchants to identify legitimate buyers on their Flutterwave platforms. This effort is aimed at detecting fraudsters masking themselves as legitimate buyers on the payment platform.

The partnership touted as the first of its kind in Africa will enable merchants to accurately identify legitimate buyers from fraudsters in the hopes of increasing transaction approvals and reducing friction in the purchasing experience, all without the fear of fraud.

    Things are gradually returning to normal as the nu Things are gradually returning to normal as the number of covid-19 cases continues to fall. Although it may take a while before we hug people or shake hands without second thoughts, things are getting better.

Only 523 new cases were recorded between April 6 and 13. This is a slight increase compared to the 497 people that tested positive over the previous week. Two weeks earlier, Technext reported that 584 people tested positive.

The numbers show a sustained decrease in the spread of infections across the country. Indeed the Lagos state government is now confident enough to allow event centres and relaxation centres to increase their crowd capacity. Along with that, here are other developments during the week.
