The Venture Incubation Programme (VIP) is an initiative of UCT GSB Solution Space in collaboration with MTN and is designed to provide a supportive ecosystem to help startups build viable and scalable innovation-driven companies. It is also aimed at providing startups with a range of resources including; co-working space, practical learning clinics, mentors, weekly check-ins and staff advisors, and a community of peers who learn and grow together.

The programme is looking startups building a sustainable Africa through digital solutions for health, education, agriculture, fintech, energy and IoT, or enabling businesses through digital solutions for religion, sport, news and e-commerce.

Poised to take place at Solution Space Waterfront, Cape Town South Africa, this is the second programme this year (we did a post on the first programme) and it is a 3-month incubation programme expected to take place between the September 3 – November 30, 2018.

Intending startups should ensure they have at least two members/founders, with the right balance of skills to learn, build, test and deliver. They should also have a working prototype with a minimum feature set ready to conduct early-market testing to further establish product and market fit. Founders are expected to be the lead participant while the whole team must attend on a full-time basis (present at the Solution Space 30+hrs/week during the 12-week period).

Startups would have to apply online, take part in a 5-day design sprint after which there would be a pitching session where about 10-15 startups would be chosen by the panel participate in the three-month Venture Incubation Programme and accelerate the development of their digital solution.

Selected startups would be provided with mentorship, guidance, series of workshops, collaborative opportunities with the MTN group and several early-stage investors as well as funding (an amount of R300k – or its equivalent value) given to each digital startup for support.

Application closes on July 1, 2018. Interested startups can click here to get started.
