Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to Launch North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub in Yola Today

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo will be in Yola, Adamawa State today for the launch of the North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub (NEInnovationHub).

The NEInnovationHub is an all-in-one humanitarian hub (for young Nigerians including internally displaced persons) aimed at capitalizing on several opportunities via innovative ideas from youths to drive development in the North-Eastern region of Nigeria.

    Dear Yola,

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo is in town tomorrow for the Launch of the North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub.

    Are you ready?#NEInnovationHub #VPAtNEHub pic.twitter.com/OsIa2tzlSq

This initiative was launched as a result of collaborative efforts between the Presidential Committee on the North-East Initiative (PCNI) and the Social Investment Office of the Office of the Vice President, the Adamawa State Government, American University of Nigeria (Yola), and International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

The Innovation Hub would be providing key innovative and tech support as well as access to basic human development activities in order to ensure sustainable peace and stimulating socio-economic growth in the region.

The Hub will also help to connect affected people with innovators, investors, venture capitalists and tech companies that would provide an immediate solution to humanitarian challenges faced in that region and one of such efforts by the hub is the commencement of the North-East Makeathon which started in October 2017.

    Talk to me.

As much as the facilitators are here to impart knowledge, they are also here to listen to challenges and understand viewpoints.

Most importantly, to leverage tech solutions to the humanitarian challenges in the North-East.#NEMakeathon for @NEInnovationHub pic.twitter.com/AZToYa9QVQ

The North East Makeathon is an intensive all-inclusive hackathon programme that includes Pitching, Training, Mentorship, and Incubation sessions for tech innovators to use their innovative ideas to address the priority challenges faced in the North East (Education, Food security, livelihood support amongst others). At the end of this stage, the teams with the best innovative ideas will proceed to the Innovation Hub, where they will be stationed to effect their innovative ideas.

The North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub is the FG's partnership with the Private sector and ICRC to establish a hub that will support innovative solutions to the humanitarian challenges in North-East Nigeria.#NEInnovationHub pic.twitter.com/3dx6qOquoF

    — The North-East Humanitarian Innovation Hub (@NEInnovationHub) May 27, 2018

The Hub is in furtherance of the Office of the Vice President goal of siting a hub in each of the six geopolitical zones (including one in Lagos and FCT each) and it would be recognized for bringing together the best minds and for proffering innovative solutions to challenges faced by the people of North East Nigeria.
