ALAT by Wema Bank Scores Huge Recognition at the 2018 Asian Banker Awards

Nigeria’s first truly digital bank, ALAT by Wema Bank, has added a huge recognition to its already bulging reputation. The app has been named the “Best Digital Bank in Africa” at the 2018 Asian Banker Awards.

We’re also celebrating; We were awarded The Best Digital Bank in Africa at the 2018 Asian Banker Awards. This achievement is possible because you trust in us, thank you. pic.twitter.com/UU7U5sd934

    — ALAT By Wema (@alat_ng) April 1, 2018

This is some good recognition for the already popular ALAT. Headquartered in Singapore, the Asian Banker is Asia’s leading provider of strategic intelligence in the financial sector. It organizes the Asian Banker Awards to recognize banks that stand out with groundbreaking products, despite the various challenges facing the banking sector.

The Asian Banker’s recognition of ALAT only confirms the popularity and effectiveness of the app. Notwithstanding that it was only launched in May 2017,  the app has gone on to garner over 100,000 downloads on Android.

    About ALAT

Targeted at the tech savvy generation, ALAT is an all in one digital banking experience. It offers users impressive features such as creation of bank accounts, loan processing, and gives around 10% interests on all savings. Since May 2017, the app’s user base has spiked. It now has over 200,000 registered accounts.

The Asian Banker Award is not ALAT’s first global recognition for excellence also. The app has helped Wema Bank claim Best Mobile Banking App and Best Digital Bank for 2017 at the World Finance Digital Banking Awards 2017.

ALAT is a testament to Wema Bank’s IT innovations over the past couple of years. Wema Bank has created impressive financial products and innovations that are so popular.

For instance, the bank developed the hugely popular WebPay service. WebPay is a payment gateway system, similar to QuickTeller. WebPay is now one of the most popular payment gateways on the Nigerian internet. Betting websites like Bet9Ja and Nairabet have chosen it for quick payments.
