The initial campaign brought more attention to the Aba manufacturing clusters – exposing the great innovative and resilient spirit of the traders/manufacturers. It also exposed the challenges faced by Aba manufacturing clusters and also steps to ensure a re-energized interest and trust in their products from both within and outside Nigeria.

Some of the discoveries from the campaign showed that millions of clothing materials, thousands of pairs of shoes, thousands of Belts, Bags and other leather goods are manufactured every day in Aba. Also, other manufacturing industries that are producing upholstery, metal, machine and automobile repairs and fabrication.

It was discovered that access to the market, distribution/logistic difficulties, lack of marketing/branding knowledge, lack of modern manufacturing equipment and processing were some of the problems facing the campaign.

Who Should Apply For the Hackathon

The Hackathon Challenge is seeking passionate teams familiar with and knowledgeable about the issues facing the campaign and they must also have solutions that can solve any or all of the problems. To be successful, teams should be able to demonstrate their understanding of the problem, the impact of their solution to the stated problem areas.

Fresh ideas may apply, however, ideas with popular support backed by experienced teams stand a better chance. A shortlist of 10 teams will be pre-approved to proceed to the Hackathon camp and they would be made to present to a panel of judges comprised of multi-disciplined seasoned business leaders their solutions.
