Nigerian network provider 9mobile is partnering with Bango, a mobile payment platform, to launch 9pay, According to a report on Nigerian Communications Week, the mobile wallet 9pay will enable customers pay for games, apps and digital content on Google Play store.
Bango had earlier launched Mobile Money wallet in conjunction with MTN Ghana to help Ghanaians pay for goods and services procured online. Subscribers on the MTN Ghana network can select the ‘pay with mobile money’ option on Google Play store to charge the cost of the app, game and other services to their MTN Mobile Money wallet.

9mobile’s 9pay and MTN Ghana’s Mobile Money wallet are major steps in reducing reliance on credit or debit cards for purchasing goods and services online. It will give customers who before now did not have access to the digital economy an avenue to enjoy the Google play store experience.
The beautiful thing is that the mobile wallet is not just for Google Play alone; it can be used to pay for other web services like lotteries, and as a means of payment for locally made apps and games. 9pay also allows customers use the app to carry out regular financial transactions like sending and receiving money, topping up airtime, sending airtime to someone, receiving digital change and lots more.
Opening a 9pay account is very simple. First you have to be a 9mobile customer, then you dial *500# on your mobile phone. You can also visit 9pay.com.ng to open an account or complete the process while on the playstore app. There is no need to worry about the security of your money as all funds are stored and monitored by UBA Plc.
9pay is a welcome idea as Nigerians are constantly on the lookout for apps that will make access and payment to goods and services online easier and faster. Hopefully, the network provider’s customer base will enjoy a boost from this partnership.
