snap SnapChat Copies Instagram’s GIF Feature, Other Features Coming soon

Snapchat has announced that it is launching a new feature on Tuesday. The app will allow its users to share their stories with friends and family outside of the app. Snap, its parent company, is hoping this new feature would help to grow its low user base.

Snapchat is bringing its hugely popular Stories feature to the PC. In a few weeks, the app a share option to its Stories tile in its Discover section. From here, users will be able to share public Stories onto platforms like Facebook, Twitter and email. This feature is expected to roll out globally in a few weeks, but is already available to users in Australia and Canada.

This feature would not be available to all varieties of public Stories. However, stories eligible to for sharing according to the company include Official Stories, Our Stories, and Search Stories. Unlike the app, Stories shared on the web would disappear after 30 days while Official Stories would disappear after 24 hours.

Snapping At Facebook and Slow Growth

For years, Snapchat’s continued existence has been a source of concern for industry watchers. Facebook has been a huge threat to its existence; it has copied a host of Snapchat’s feature and made them part of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp.

Meanwhile Snapchap’s growth is stalling. In the third quarter of 2017, Snapchat grew to 178 million total daily users. But this meant that its user base had grown by just 2.9% over the previous quarter. Even though originally the app had planned for a narrow user base, the app has struggled to grow. Snapchat is hoping that this new feature would increase the apps reach.

The company believes that this new feature would show non-users what the app can do. The aim is to make Snapchat easier to use, and exposing it to non-users is expected to increase its reach and customer base.
