You may now Enjoy Your Data Until 14 Days After Your Subscription Expires- NCC

The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) has indicated that it will soon issue a direction to Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) to allow for a 14 days window for telecom service consumers to roll over their unused data even when they do not renew at the expiration of the data plan.

The Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Commission, Prof. Umar Danbatta, stated this yesterday at the programme commemorating The NCC Day at the ongoing Port Harcourt International Trade Fair, where he was represented by Bashir Idris, NCC’s Head of Projects.

This is good news especially in the face of growing complaints by consumers over increasing data cost, the inexplicable rate of data consumption and faux data bonuses.

This is one of the many consumer-focused outcomes of the many consumer forums NCC has been holding across the country. Recall that it organised the Consumer Conversation at Oduduwa University Ile Ife, the Shehu Musa Yar’adua Centre, Abuja, Ibillo Market and Motor Park, More, the Federal Polytechnic Bida, Niger State and in many other locations.

This initiative is part of the multiple programs created by the NCC to help sensitive, educate and protect telecom consumers’ rights. The other programmes include Consumer Conversations Programmes, Consumer Outreach Programmes, Town Hall Meetings, Radio Phone in Programmes and NCC Special Day at Trade Fairs.

Recall that NCC had, through its Compliance, Monitoring and Enforcement team, vigorously pursued agents selling pre-registered SIM cards and imposed sanctions and fines on the operators. To this end, joint raids with the security agents were carried out on pre-registered SIM cards selling points in Kano, Jigawa, Abuja, Lagos and others.

We must commend the agency for these initiatives. Hopefully, these will improve the quality of telecoms services in Nigeria as well as make living easier.
