      NCS to Honour ICT Champions, Reward Academic Excellence at NITMA 2017 Awards

      The Nigeria Computer Society (NCS) is set to celebrate one outstanding figure in the ICT for the year 2017 with its prestigious IT personality of the Year award at this year’s edition of the Nigeria Information Technology Awards (NITMA) holding on Thursday, in Lagos.

      The IT personality of the year award is usually given to individuals who have distinguished themselves in their fields of endeavour and used to celebrate individuals that have excelled in the nation’s tech sector in the course of a given year.

      The nominees for this years award are Amos Emmanuel, chief software architect and Chairman, Programos Software Group, Isaias Barreto da Rosa, commissioner for Telecommunications & Information Technologies, ECOWAS, Tope Aladenusi, the chief strategy officer, Deloitte West Africa, Valentine Obi, the group chief executive officer, eTranzact Global and Yele Okeremi, the Chief Executive Officer, Precise Financial Systems Ltd.

      Recent past winners include John Tani Obaro, MD, Systemspecs Nigeria Limited (2013), Austin Okere, Founder, CWG plc (2014), (Mrs.) Florence Seriki (late), MD, Omatek Computers (2015) and Akpodigha Filatei FNCS, CEO, Guarantee Turnkey Systems Ltd (2016).

      Prof Adesola Aderounmu, President of NCS said at a Press Conference on Monday that some other individuals and organizations will be given Special Recognition Awards for their significant contributions in the IT and related areas in the past year at NITMA 2017.

      According to him, the key areas of the ICT sector and the broader society have been covered in the selection of the awards. He also noted that the key criteria for deciding on the winners include IT specialisations, adherence to the NCS standards and global best practices.

      At 2017 National Information Technology Merit Awards (NITMA) Professional fellowships will be conferred on NCS members recognized as authorities in computing fields & who have made significant contribution to IT growth.

      The event will also witness the conferment of Professional fellowships on NCS members who have recognized themselves as authorities in computing fields as well as made significant contributions to the growth of the ICT sector in Nigeria. It will also feature a scholarship award for outstanding students.

      The Nigeria Computer Society is the umbrella organization of all Information Technology Professionals, Interest Groups and Stakeholders in Nigeria. Formed in 1978, NCS is the national platform for the advancement of Information Technology Science and Practice in Nigeria, collaborating with relevant governments, institutions and organisations in proffering solutions to the issues of the Digital Divide.

      NITMA is awarded only to companies and individuals with valid licenses to practice Information Technology (IT) in Nigeria and be registered by the Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN) and the Corporate Affairs Commission (for corporate organizations).
