In order to accelerate the expansion of broadband internet access and achieve the 30% broadband penetration target in the National Broadband Plan, MainOne has partnered with Avanti Communications Group PLC to deliver broadband services across a wider footprint in Nigeria.

This satellite broadband services will complement the country’s existing fibre broadband networks and are expected to help expedite the attainment of 30% broadband penetration in 2018 by extending internet services to more rural and difficult to reach places e.g. Niger Delta and offshore Oil and Gas producing areas.

The partnership will include the deployment of Avanti’s ECO solution to provide ECO Wi-Fi services to schools and communities, especially in the remote parts of the country where power availability and connectivity services remain a challenge. The partnership is backed with the commissioning by Avanti of a new Gateway Earth Station (GES) in Nigeria, hosted at MainOne’s Tier III Data Center to access the HYLAS 4 satellite scheduled for launch later this year.
